Social Security saw increase
Re Jack L. Miller letter, "Cost-of-living raise clearly merited," June 17:
Miller clearly stated that there was no cost-of-living increase in both 2009 and 2010. Although I have no argument with many of Miller's statements, according to my records, there was a 5.8 percent increase in Social Security payments for 2009 compared to 2008. I am sure that many low income workers on the Grand Strand would have been very satisfied with that type of increase for 2009 over 2008.
Never miss a local story.

MB police to require helmets, wonder?
I have spent many a summer vacation in the Myrtle Beach area, and I have fond memories of the Ferris wheel at the old Pavilion. As a small child, I would beg my parents to take me there every evening just to ride on the old wheel, and like many others I was saddened to see the Pavilion close a few years ago.
To my delight, however, I read in your newspaper that the city is considering a new and bigger Ferris wheel to be located in the same general oceanfront area. I can't wait to give it a try, but I am wondering if the police department is going to require us to wear helmets before taking a spin on it.
