Congratulations to our compatriots down the street at the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, which celebrated 75 years of service at its annual meeting on Tuesday.
Since its formation in 1938, the same year the city was incorporated, the group has been composed of leading businessmen dedicated to the goal of improving our area’s economy. In the past seven decades they’ve overseen and helped shepherd our transition from a small coastal city with a seasonal tourist trade to a year-round tourist behemoth that draws more than 14 million visitors annually and continues to grow.
There have been ups and downs over the years, but the chamber has stuck by its mission to “promote, protect and improve business” on the Grand Strand. And business has benefited from that leadership, weathering storms and growing in the good times.
Happy 75th, guys.
