Three swimmers were rescued from the ocean off Hilton Head Island on Wednesday afternoon, according to a news release from Hilton Head Island Fire and Rescue.
Spokesperson Joheida Fister said the swimmers had taken a paddleboard into the water near Hilton Head Beach and Tennis Resort.
Once in the water, the winds pushed the trio away from the beach about 500 yards, and they were drifting, unable to get back to shore, she said in the release.
First responders with Hilton Head Island Fire Rescue arrived on scene about 1:30 p.m., and Shore Beach Services sent out a wave runner from Burkes Beach.
