One person has been arrested on multiple counts of attempted murder while a second is being sought in connection with a gang-related shooting that occurred in Richland County earlier this year, officials say.
Mark Anthony Wilson, 24, was arrested by the Midlands Gang Task Force during a traffic stop on McCords Ferry Road Wednesday, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said in a statement released Monday.
The shooting occurred on Jan. 21. in the 7200 block of Patricia Drive in a residential area between Leesburg and Hazelwood roads east of Columbia. Multiple shots were fired from a gold 2009 Mercury sedan striking one person, who has not been identified, in the lower body. That person was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening-injuries.
The incident was gang related, Lott said and went on to say that additional arrests are forthcoming. Lott also asked for the community’s help in identifying a person of interest (image seen here).
Anyone with information on the identity of this person or this incident is asked to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
Wilson was charged with four counts of attempted murder, discharging a firearm into a dwelling, possession of a stolen pistol, unlawful carrying of a pistol, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, resisting arrest, malicious injury to personal property and simple possession of marijuana, Lott said. He was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
