BISHOPVILLE, S.C. (AP) – State corrections officials said Friday they have contained a disturbance at the Lee Correctional Institution in Bishopville.
Corrections Department spokeswoman Stephanie Givens said in a statement that the incident began around noon Thursday at the maximum security prison.
Givens says an officer was trying to search an inmate and several inmates attacked seven officers. The officers were treated and released from medical facilities outside the prison.
She said two inmates were treated by the prison medical staff.
Givens says corrections officers and the State Law Enforcement Division secured the prison after the disturbance.
She says the attack is still being investigated.
