A Vancouver police officer scolded a mother for leaving her children, ages 3 and 6, in a hot car while she grocery shopped on the afternoon of July 3. Police said they received multiple emergency calls about two children, who were said to be in distress while alone inside the locked car as the alarm also went off. The mother was reportedly inside the grocery store for 20 minutes.
Alex W. Guerrero of Fort Mill married Morgan Gaile Krohn Guerrero on Feb. 13 despite Alex having terminal cancer. Alex, 20, died Friday less than three days after the couple wed in his parents living room in Fort Mill. Morgan said that the couple wanted to be married and despite Alex's terminal illness, they decided to get married after becoming engaged Jan. 28. Morgan said "They wanted to be a couple forever," so were married before Alex died.
The Rock Hill Bearcats wrestling team will take on the Fort Dorchester Patriots for the 5A wrestling state championship Tuesday, Feb. 20 in Columbia. The match was scheduled for Feb. 10, but was postponed while the South Carolina High School league investigated the eligibility of a Fort Dorchester wrestler. Three Rock Hill wrestlers talk about the wait and what they are doing to prepare for the match.

The Winthrop University men's basketball team honored three men who were injured in a shooting last month at its game Sunday. York County Sheriff's officers Randy Clinton and Buddy Brown and Kyle Cummings of the York Police Dept. were shot and injured in a domestic violence call last month. Detective Mike Doty was killed in the shooting.
Winthrop University men's basketball team coach Pat Kelsey and players Anders Broman and Josh Ferguson talk about the team honoring York County police officers wounded and killed in January in the line of duty. The team invited officers Randy Clinton, Buddy Brown, Kyle Cummings and Chris Doty into their locker room before the game and thanked them for their service. Doty's twin brother, Mike Doty, died Jan. 17 after the officers were ambushed in a domestic violence incident near York. The officers were escorted onto the court during the game. Kelsey also invited the officers into the locker room before the game and thanked them, calling them heroes.
Debbie Whitesell, mother of 19-year-old Karson Whitesell, who died after a gunman opened fire at The Peach Stand in Fort Mill, said she can relate to the agony of the parents of 17 teenagers that died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2018 during a school shooting in Parkland, Fla. Whitesell said the hardest part of the day her daughter died was calling the teen's phone and receiving no answer.
Tina Nichols, part owner of Nichols Store in Rock Hill, said the outdoor store is selling body armor inserts that fit into childrens' backpacks to protect the kids from gunfire. The store has advertised the inserts on its website and social media after school shootings, along with the shooting deaths of a York County detective and a teenage store clerk in Fort Mill last month. The store is receiving mixed reviews.
The York Comprehensive High School student council raised nearly $5,000 to make hundreds of stuffed animals to give to sick children at two Charlotte hospitals and the Ronald McDonald house. The students started the fundraiser about two months ago and made close to 450 stuffed animals.
