Public hearing to be held Thursday on statewide education assessments

A public hearing will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in Columbia for the new Special Assessment Panel to receive comments on the components of a comprehensive assessment system for grades three through eight, as well as for a college and career readiness assessment for grade 11.

A public hearing will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in Columbia for the new Special Assessment Panel to receive comments on the components of a comprehensive assessment system for grades three through eight, as well as for a college and career readiness assessment for grade 11.

It will be held at Peeples Auditorium, which is located on the third floor of the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control, 2600 Bull St. Parking is available in the lot next to the building.

The panel can only make decisions about the procurement of the assessments and cannot make decisions about the standards.

Those wishing to testify at the hearing are asked to sign in prior to the 10 a.m. start Thursday to place their names on the speakers’ list. Each participant will be limited to 5 minutes.

Those unable to attend the hearing may make comments at Assessment@oed.sc.gov. The deadline is 3 p.m. Wednesday.
