The Chicora Rotary of Myrtle Beach will host the second annual “Waves of the Future – Rotary’s Celebration of Horry County Schools” at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Calvin Gilmore Theater.
“Waves of the Future” showcases the talent of Horry County Schools students – from elementary school to high school – including singing, dancing and instrumentals. The inaugural event featured 600 students performing in 35 acts from 16 schools, and raised more than $33,000, with $10,000 donated to the school district’s fine arts programs.
More than 700 students are expected to participate in this year’s event. All proceeds will go toward the district’s Fine Arts programs and local and international Rotary projects, such as polio eradication, the Dictionary Program and Project Happy Feet.
“After the success of last year’s event, we are excited to again showcase such amazing theatrical talents of children right here in our community,” said Rich Scott, Chicora Rotary president. “ ‘Waves of the Future’ is not only a way to feature the accomplishments of local students, but also a way to help promote and give back to the fine arts programs in our schools, which are so important to our youth.”
Never miss a local story.
