An escaped Texas sex offender was found dead on the beach near 29th Avenue South on Saturday, according to Michelle McSpadden, deputy coroner with Horry County.
Brent Allen Jozefkowicz, 48, of Fort Worth, Texas died about 5 a.m. after suffering a single gunshot wound, and his death has been ruled a suicide, McSpadden said.
Jozefkowicz was listed on the Texas 10 Most Wanted Sex Offenders list and was considered armed and dangerous after cutting off his ankle monitor device the evening of Aug. 4 and escaping from a Fort Worth Transitional Center Halfway House, authorities said.
According to a release from the Texas Department of Public Safety, Jozefkowicz was considered a “sexually violent predator” and had been a part of Texas’ Civil Commitment program since October 2008.
In September 1984, Jozefkowicz received a two-year deferred adjudication sentence for indecency with a child in connection with an incident involving a 14-year-old girl, according to the release.
In March 1992, Jozefkowicz received a deferred adjudication sentence in connection with a sexual assault involving a 21-year-old woman, authorities said.
Jozefkowicz had his probation revoked and was sentenced to 16 years in prison, officials said.
On Aug. 5, authorities issued a warrant for his arrest in connection with failure to comply with civil commitment requirements and failure to register as a sex offender, according to the release.
Texas authorities were offering a reward up to $2,000 for his capture, officials said.
