A 19-year-old man, who was later flown by helicopter to a hospital, went into a Conway-area home looking for help after being shot in the leg Monday afternoon, according to Horry County police report.
“I’ve been shot, he’s still after me, help me,” the teen said after entering a man’s home in a panic, the report states. Police said the victim was in his underwear and wasn’t wearing shoes. The man called police, and the victim ran from his house. The man then got into his car, found the victim, and convinced him to get into his car, police said.
The man then took the victim back to his Winter Rain Drive home and awaited police. Officers arrived about 4:30 p.m. and found the victim sitting in a chair with a towel wrapped around his leg.
Police looked at his leg and said there was a gunshot wound in his right, inner thigh. The victim told police he was walking down the road when a man pulled up and started shooting at him, according to the report.
He told officers he ran, but was still struck by a bullet when the gunfire erupted. The victim told police the suspect was traveling in a green Pacifica; however, the man who called police told officers the victim told him the suspect was in a blue Honda Civic, the report states. He was then flown to an emergency room in a helicopter with non life-threatening injuries, police said.
Officers combed the area looking for a crime scene, but said they were unable to find where the shooting happened. Authorities said they knew the victim ran up to Winter Rain Drive from a wooded area that backs up to the man’s home.
Police spoke with residents nearby, but everyone said they didn’t hear or see anything.
“Detectives are exhausting every resource to identify the person(s) responsible. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Horry County Police Department at 843-248-1520,” said Krystal Dotson, Horry County police spokeswoman, by email.
