Police have identified the man killed in Longs on Tuesday.
Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard said 41-year-old Jason Sprott of Jacksonville, Florida died around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday after being transported to the Seacoast Hospital emergency room. She called the death a homicide.
He was found sitting inside a gray SUV with what appeared to be three gunshot wounds, police said.
Police were called around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday after someone called 911 and then hung up.
Witnesses heard several gunshots come from Elbow Road before Sprott drove his SUV from that area, jumped a ditch and ran it into a yard on Freemont Road, according to the Horry County police report.
Neighbors broke the passenger’s side window trying to help him, according to the report.
Police say witnesses did not cooperate in providing all the details of the incident.
“Detectives are exhausting every lead in attempt to identify and ultimately locate a suspect,” police spokesperson Krystal Dotson said in an email Wednesday. “Anyone with information is asked to contact HCPD at 843-248-1520.”
