A man was arrested in connection with an armed robbery Wednesday following an incident that occurred in early January at the construction site of Coastal Carolina University housing, according to a police report.
Billy Ray Caulder, 27, was charged with armed robbery on Wednesday and released from the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Thursday on a $10,000 bond, according to jail records.
Police were called about 3:45 p.m. on Jan. 2 to a CCU housing construction site at 3000 Elvington Loop, where a 44-year-old man reported the incident, authorities said.
The victim said Caulder approached him about getting his paycheck for work he had done over the past week. The victim told Caulder he could not find a payroll check for him, and Caulder told the victim to give him his check or he would kill him and patted his right side pocket, police said.
The victim told police he saw the outline of a pistol in Caulder’s pocket.
Caulder then grabbed the victim’s cellphone and said, “you will get this back when I get my check,” according to the report.
The victim said Caulder left the area, driving away with two other construction site employees.
Police said a witness on the scene told them he saw Caulder holding a black revolver pistol during the incident.
