A 36-year-old woman was taken into custody for a mental evaluation after Conway police were called for a vehicle that drove into a pond along U.S. 501, according to a police report.
Officers were called at 2:30 p.m. Friday to the pond next to Fatz at 2494 Church St., which is located near Conway Ford, for an attempted suicide, police said.
Witnesses told police that a Nissan pickup truck had been going north on Church Street when it jumped the curb and went into the pond, according to the report. Officers found it submerged in the water and the driver was helped by bystanders.
Officers learned from witnesses that they pulled the woman to safety after seeing the vehicle go into the pond, according to the report. Witnesses also told police the woman said she didn’t want to live anymore and heard voices.
The woman also told witnesses she was trying to find her husband, who lives in North Carolina, according to the report. Officers took the woman into custody and to Conway Medical Center for a mental evaluation.
No other details were listed in the report.
