A 30-year-old woman was bitten in the hand and a 53-year-old man was hit in the head with an ashtray before a man fired gunshots into the air outside a Socastee bar, according to a police report.

Horry County police were called about 11:45 p.m. Wednesday to Sun Up bar at 4528 Socastee Blvd., where someone reported a man with a gun, authorities said. While officers were on the way, they learned that a man had gotten upset inside the bar, went outside and took a gun from his motorcycle before he fired shots into the air.

A witness told officers the man had been sitting at the end of the bar and got upset and threw a shot glass to the corner of the bar, according to the report. The witness said the woman tried to help get the man out of the bar before he went and pulled out the gun and started shooting about five times.

The woman told officers that she argued with the suspect because the bartender took his keys because she thought he was too intoxicated to drive, according to the report. The woman said the suspect took the keys back and she tried to get them when he bit her on the hand.

The woman had a small cut on two fingers, but she declined EMS treatment, according to the report. She said the suspect shot the gun into the air before he knocked on the bar door with the gun.

The other victim, a man told police he was sitting at the end of the bar when the suspect threw an ashtray and hit him in the head, according to the report. The man had a lump on his head, but declined EMS.

Officers found eight shell casings in the parking lot of the bar and the suspect had left the area. Detectives are investigating the incident.
