Horry County police are searching for an Aynor couple in connection with the disappearance of a 1-year-old boy, Lt. Robert Kegler said.

Charles Lester Ammons, 42, and Kaitlyn Courville, 24, both of Aynor are wanted on charges of custodial interference, Kegler said Friday. Arrest warrants for them were issued Thursday and the baby was listed in a national database as a missing person.

Horry County police have been working with officials of the Department of Social Services in the case, which began in June when a court order was issued to the officials to take custody of the baby, 1-year-old Zander Ammons, because of an ongoing investigation, Kegler said.

When DSS employees went to take custody of the baby they could not find him, Kegler said. Officials determined the parents were no longer at their listed address.

Officials were able to speak to the baby’s parents by telephone, but they have refused to give him up and have been in hiding from DSS workers, Kegler said. Police are asking for residents’ help in finding the parents so they can take custody of the baby.

Anyone with information about the couple or the baby can call Horry County Police at 915-TIPS.
