Horry County police investigate homicide that ended with vehicle crash in Loris

A Loris man died and another person remains hospitalized Thursday after a shooting and vehicle crash in the Loris area, Horry County police Lt. Robert Kegler said.

Detectives are investigating the incident that occurred Wednesday night on Main Street in Loris, Kegler said. A vehicle crashed and Loris police officers found that both the driver and the passenger had suffered gunshot wounds.

David Blanton, 24, of Loris was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, Horry County Coroner Robert Edge said. An autopsy performed Thursday morning confirmed that Blanton died from a gunshot wound.

The other person police found the in the vehicle was taken to a local hospital and is listed in stable condition, Kegler said.

Additional details about the incident have not been released.
