A 30-year-old Myrtle Beach man was charged with attempted murder after officers learned he pointed a gun at a man during an argument about a former girlfriend, police said.

Ryan Culvern Scott, 30, of Myrtle Beach was charged Sunday with attempted murder and possession of a controlled substance after police were called at 2:20 a.m. Sunday to 6003 N. Kings Highway for an argument.

Scott was being held at the Myrtle Beach Jail pending a bond hearing, according to jail records at 6:30 a.m. Monday

The victim, a 36-year-old man, told police he was arguing with Scott about a former girlfriend and he tried to diffuse the situation by offering to shake Scott’s hand, according to the report. The victim told officers that Scott threatened to shoot him before he took a pistol from the waistband of his pants.

The victim said a 32-year-old man, who witnessed the incident, grabbed Scott’s hand and pushed it toward the ground and held it until another person helped restrain Scott, according to the report. The witnesses were able to get the gun away from Scott.

When police took Scott into custody, he was taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center because he was intoxicated, according to the report. Officers also noted they found several pills in his pants pocket.
