A trooper with the S.C. Highway Patrol was found at fault in a crash from Sunday on S.C. 544 near Surfside Beach, according to authorities.

The trooper was not cited because he was in the process of turning around on vehicle that had violated a traffic law when the crash occurred, said Jeff Benton, a sergeant with the Horry County Sheriff’s Office.

The trooper was driving an unmarked Dodge Charger and struck a 2003 Cadillac Escalade from behind in the crash that happened about 7:30 a.m. Sunday on S.C. 544 near U.S. 17 Bypass, Benton said.

The trooper was taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center for treatment, but Benton didn’t know the trooper’s condition. The two occupants of Cadillac were not hurt.
