A Conway High School teacher arrested in November pleaded guilty Monday and is now on probation, according to Horry County records.

Courtney Ruth Martin, 26, of Aynor was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor in Nov. 2013.

Conway Police Lt. Selena Small said a police investigation determined Martin engaged in inappropriate behavior with a student while employed as a teacher between Aug. 23, 2012 and Oct. 29, 2013.

In the plea, Martin was sentenced to three years, suspended to two years probation. She is not required to be listed on the sex offender registry but may not contact the victim and must pay court costs.

Martin, an English teacher at Conway High School, was placed on leave when school officials recieved the tip and no longer works for the district, said Kenneth Generette, staff attorney for Horry County Schools.

According to an incident report, police received an anonymous tip through the Horry County Schools tip line about the alleged inappropriate behavior.

Martin and the student, listed as a 10th grader, planned to have sex, the report said. Martin is also accused of sending photos of body parts, including her breasts, to the student, police.

The student told police he and Martin were involved in a relationship, and said it ended when he texted her to tell her police had questioned him about their involvement, the report said.

He also said met Martin in her classroom during his lunch or after school and said they would “hug, kiss and talk about their relationship,” according to the report.
