A 22-year-old Surfside Beach man was charged Tuesday with armed robbery and trying to defraud the state lottery and was being held on $12,500 bond, according to jail records.
Diamond Luis Brown was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center at 2:21 p.m. Monday on armed robbery and attempting to defraud the S.C. lottery, according to jail records. Bond was set at $10,000 on the robbery charge and $2,500 on the lottery charge.
Horry County police charged Brown in connection with an armed robbery at 2:25 a.m. Sunday at the Kangaroo store at 1001 62nd Ave. N., in Myrtle Beach.
A store clerk told police that a man with a blue bandanna over his face and black hooded sweatshirt over his head, came into the store, jumped over the counter and demanded money, according to the police report. The robber was armed with a black handgun and pointed it at the clerk as he ordered him to get on the ground.

The clerk told police that the robber grabbed money from the register and then ordered the clerk to empty his pockets, according to the report. The robber also grabbed several scratch-off lottery tickets before he ran out of the store.
Police searched the area, but were not able to find the suspect. Officers reviewed video surveillance, which showed the suspect wore white gloves. They took photos of footprints left behind on the store counter.
