A Conway man was charged in connection with the sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl and was terminated from his position as an Horry County Fire Rescue firefighter and EMT, according to authorities.
Rodney Claude Gilmore, 39, of Conway was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center at 7:42 a.m. Feb. 1 on a charge of third-degree criminal sexual conduct and later released at 10:22 a.m. that same day on $5,000 bail, according to jail records.
Gilmore was a firefighter and EMT with Horry County Fire Rescue since July 29, 2002, but was terminated on Jan. 31, said Lisa Bourcier, Horry County spokeswoman.
According to an Horry County police report, officers were called by a worker with the state Department of Social Services on Jan. 29 involving the sexual assault of the 13-year-old.
The victim told officials that between June 10 and Jan. 11 that Gilmore forcibly touched her in inappropriate places, according to the report. The victim said she is uncomfortable being around Gilmore and has become depressed about it.
DSS officials also are investigating the incidents.
It was unclear if Gilmore, who could not be reached Tuesday, had an attorney.
