A Conway man was charged after his 18-year-old girlfriend said he beat her with a broom handle after they argued and she kicked his truck, according to an Horry County police incident report.

Tommy Lee Watts, 18, of Conway was charged with kidnapping and criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature and booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center at 5:45 a.m. Thursday, according to jail records. Watts was released at 6:16 p.m. Thursday on $5,000 bail.

Police said an 18-year-old woman reported that she and Watts argued about 3 p.m. on Dec. 11, and she was upset so she kicked the side of his truck, according to the incident report. The woman said Watts grabbed her, hit her in the face and threw her to the ground, where he hit her with a broom handle, according to police.

The victim told police Watts also head butted her, which caused a cut to her head, according to the report. The victim tried to call 911, but Watts took the phone and destroyed it before he took a knife and threatened to kill her, police said.

The victim said Watts then held her for about an hour and threatened to kill her when she said she was going to call police, according to the report. The victim said Watts threatened to strangle her with a black cord and tried to tie her up, but she was able to resist.

The victim, who said she is about five weeks pregnant, was able to get away when she told Watts she would not call the police, according to the report. Officers noted she suffered cuts and bruises on her head, neck and arms. She was treated at Conway Medical Center, where staff called police to report the incident.

Offices were not able to locate Watts at the time of the incident and presented the case to a magistrate for an arrest warrant. It was unclear how police arrested Watts.
