Two people were injured Tuesday when a car and all terrain vehicle collided in Georgetown County resulting in serious injuries.

State troopers said the crash around 1:45 p.m. on Oatland Road in Georgetown County remains under investigation. It happened when an ATV tried to go around one vehicle, according to police.

Sr. Trooper Bridget Wyant said Waymond Wilson Jr. of Pawleys Island, the ATV driver was taken to Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, and his passenger Chasadie Grant, 25, also of Pawleys Island, was taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. Their conditions were not available late Tuesday. Neither was wearing a helmet, Wyant said.

Troopers said the driver of the car, Nathaniel Keith Jr., 20, of Andrews, is charged with failure to yield, and charges are pending for 19-year-old Wilson, who Wyant said was driving four-wheeler ATV illegally on Oatland Road.

Both vehicles were northbound on Oatland Road, Wyant said, when the ATV attempted to pass a vehicle that was in front of it and behind Keith’s 1999 Oldsmobile.

Keith attempted to turn left into a private driveway, and the collision occurred, Wyant said.

She was unclear about the speed of either vehicle at the time of the crash.
