The Myrtle Beach Police Department is investigating reports of a possible shooting Tuesday behind a vacant building on Oak Forest Lane.
A heavy police presence surrounded the vacant building, situated at the end of a shopping plaza off Seaboard Street, shortly after noon Tuesday.
“We received a call about shots fired over in this general area, and we sent officers over. We found a couple of shell casings in the back parking lot,” said Capt. David Knipes with the MBPD.
While shell casings were found at the scene, police did not discover a victim. They fanned out and searched nearby areas for evidence and information and begin checking with local hospitals.
“At this time, we have no victims in the shooting,” Knipes said shortly after the incident was reported. “We’ve notified area hospitals to be on the lookout if any victims show up with gunshot wounds.”
The incident remains under investigation. Later Tuesday afternoon, Knipes said there were no new details to release.
