A report of “shots fired,” a trail of blood near an abandoned car and a call from a local hospital reporting a gunshot victim sparked a shooting investigation in the unincorporated area of Myrtle Beach in Horry County Sunday night.
A 21-year-old woman checked into an emergency room at Conway Medical Center with “multiple gunshot wounds” as Horry County police responded to the area of 408 Stafford Drive in reference to a call of shots fired at 7:45 p.m.
A man, standing outside, told officers that a neighbor called to tell him that shots were heard near his residence so he rushed home, according to a police report.
At the scene, officers “noticed several spots of what appeared to be blood on the roadway” opposite the man’s house, the report says. Police said they also noticed what appeared to be more blood inside the rear seat of a vehicle parked at the scene.

Officers said in the report that several miscellaneous items of clothing were strewn on the ground in the area and they noticed a purse that “also appeared to be covered in blood on the ground outside of the driver side door of the vehicle.”
The man told police the vehicle belonged to a friend of his and that he let her park there while she went out of town.
While at the scene, officers received a call that the shooting victim, who had checked into a Conway emergency room, was transferred to Grand Strand Medical Center.
The case remains under investigation.
