A crash Thursday morning closed all three lanes of southbound traffic on U.S. 17 in North Myrtle Beach and resulted in a DUI arrest, and police have released the dashcam video of the incident.
A North Myrtle Beach police officer observed a white Ford van stopped in the middle lane of U.S. 17 in the northbound lane early Thursday. The van had two male occupants and the driver was unresponsive and resting on the steering wheel, although the van was still in drive and not moving because the driver had his foot on the brake pedal.
As the officer approached the passenger side of the vehicle, he told the passenger, identified as Andres Anibal Mercado Otero, to put the van in park. However, the passenger adjusted the radio and then passed out, according to a report from North Myrtle Beach spokesman Pat Dowling.
The officer attempted to wake up the passenger, but he only awoke briefly to tell the officer he was fine.

As the driver, identified as Kajuan Divine Jefferson, began to awake, he began driving northbound, crashing into the curb several times, according to the officer.
When the van approached 9th Avenue South, it went across the median and collided with a Ford pickup truck and continued off the roadway, where it struck a utility pole and then traveled down an embankment.
Jefferson was given a field sobriety test and had a blood alcohol level of .15. He was arrested for DUI, failure to stop and traveling left of center and taken to the North Myrtle Beach Jail.
The two occupants of the Ford pickup and Otero twere transported to Grand Strand Medical Center by medics.
