    After sunrise and before lessons for novice surfers, Jacob Simmons studies the ocean at Garden City Beach. Simmons, owner of Eternal Waves Surf Shop, is gearing up for the 16th annual Guy Daniels Memorial Surfoff on Saturday and Sunday. The surfoff will be on the beach at 13th Avenue South in Surfside Beach. There will be 150 participates surfing, in an adaptive heat and in a stand up paddle race. Guy Daniels died in 1999 after collapsing while jogging. He had an undiagnosed heart condition. Daniels was a Surfside Beach native and passionate about high education, physical fitness and environmental awareness. The Guy Daniels Memorial Foundation has awarded $85,000 in scholarships to 57 local students. This year six students from Horry and Georgetown counties were awarded $1,250 in scholarships.
