One Myrtle Beach police officer received a new partner on Friday — a furry one.
Master Cpl. Chris Smith and his K-9 partner Cees just returned from six weeks of training, according to a Facebook post from the city’s government page.
Cees, pronounced “keys,” is a 3-year-old Belgian Malinois and German Shepherd mix specialized in drug detection, article detection, criminal apprehension and handler protection, MBPD announced.
He can detect marijuana, methamphetamine, heroin and cocaine.
Never miss a local story.
Police Chief Amy Prock held a promotional and swearing in ceremony for Smith and Cees Friday morning.
“[Cees] has an excellent personality, he is very focused, I knew this was the partner I wanted to work with for the next several years,” Smith said smiling in a video posted on Facebook.
