A male pedestrian was hit by a vehicle and killed during the early hours of Saturday morning in the Conway area, according to authorities.
Buchanan Barrette, 37, of Conway was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple blunt force injuries, according to Tony Hendrick, deputy coroner with the Horry County Coroner’s Office.
The deadly crash happened about 3:40 a.m. on Cates Bay Highway, according to Lance Cpl. Judd Jones with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Hendrick said the wreck occurred near S.C. 804.
The driver of a 2006 Hyundai was traveling north on Cates Bay Highway when Barrette was struck, Jones said.
The driver wasn’t injured in the crash, according to Jones, who said the incident remains under investigation by the SCHP Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team.
