The intersection of U.S. 17 at S.C. 707, known as the backgate, will close overnight July 22 and July 23 for construction, said Horry County spokeswoman Lisa Bourcier.
Contractors are expected to strip the remaining overhang brackets, remove remaining traffic protection and perform asphalt buildup which will cover the entire intersection requiring the temporary closure.
The intersection will be closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. both days. July 24 is reserved as a backup in case of inclement weather or if an additional night is needed to complete the scheduled work, Bouricer said.
Motorists can still travel on U.S. 17, but left turns will not be allowed in any direction and drivers traveling on S.C. 707 and Farrow Parkway will not be able to cross through the intersection.
The recommended access for southbound U.S. 17 and S.C. 707 wanting to go east on Farrow Parkway would be to use the U.S. 17 at S.C. 544 interchange. The recommended access for northbound U.S. 17 and Farrow Parkway wanting to go west on S.C. 707 would be to use the Fantasy Harbour at U.S. 17 interchange.
