Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Sunday a video of a man clinging to a speeding car on I-77 remains a mystery.
Although the incident happened in interstate traffic on Saturday, Capt. J. Thomas said police have not identified the driver or the man on the back of the car. No injuries have been reported that appear to be connected, he said.
Witnesses who recorded the incident said the vehicle was moving at roughly 55 mph on the interstate near Exit 7. A video they provided to WSOC-TV Channel 9 shows a man hanging onto the back of a white sedan, and one of the witnesses told WSOC that the man appeared to break the back window with something sharp while the car was moving.
The license plate is not legible in the video.
WSOC reported that authorities got several calls from people who saw the man on the car, but Thomas said no one in the car called 911. “Last I heard we hadn’t found a victim,” he said.
