Newsmakers | South Carolina private investigators gather for conference

The S.C. Association of Legal Investigators held its 29th annual spring conference at the Embassy Suits in Myrtle Beach with more than 150 private investigators from South Carolina in attendance.

S.C. Attorney General Alan Wilson was the the keynote speaker.

Co-hosting the conference locally was Jim Murphy of ADA Investigations and Don Myers of 10-4 PI.

Sheriff Philip Thompson of Horry County gave the opening remarks, followed by the speakers who where introduced by Association Director Ken Walters, Carolina Investigations of Greenville.

Local speakers included Jacquie Gonzales of eNation Worldwide, a website business; Case Brittain of the Brittain Law Firm who addressed criminal defense; Don Lewis, retired author and prosecutor who talked about testifying in court; and Russell Hall who addressed adoption laws.

Jimmy Mesis, founder an owner of PI Magazine, was a vendor and spoke on the use of the internet for private investigators. Dan Demeres of Intelligentics, a forensic lab out of Hilton Head Island, talked on the use of DNA in private investigation work and Monica Caison of CUE made a presentation on the search for missing persons. Hal Humphreys, executive editor of Pursuit Magazine, presented on the use of technology in surveillance.

The annual award for PI of the Year was awarded to Don Myers of 10-4 PI “for Outstanding Achievement and Leadership in the Private Investigation Profession.” Myers seved 35 years with the FBI and was in charge of the local office for many years before retirement. His 10-4 PI firm was established in 1994.
