No beach tents in North Myrtle Beach
Beginning Thursday, North Myrtle Beach’s beach tent ban goes into effect for its first season. Beachgoers will not be allowed to use beach tents until after Sept. 15. Until then, only umbrellas that are no more than 9 feet in diameter may be used.

The Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce’s Legislative Policy Council will hold a forum on the Common Core educational standards Thursday, 1-3 p.m., in the chamber’s conference room, 1200 N. Oak St. The four-person panel will include Cindy Elsberry, Horry County Schools superintendent; Kevin Baird, the Common Core Institute; Sheri Few, candidate for S.C. superintendent of education; and Jane Robbins, the American Principles Project.
Vietnam Memorial Wall
Myrtle Beach Military Appreciation Days continue with a traveling display of the Vietnam Memorial Wall. The wall will be on display at The Market Common near Crabtree Memorial Gym from Wednesday to Sunday.
Bike week begins Monday
The 2014 spring bike week officially begins Monday, with bikers hitting the Grand Strand to celebrate the rally’s 75th year. Events are being held throughout the area, with a Cruise the Loop poker run and motorcycle tours throughout the week.
Beach Blast Christian Music Festival
The fifth annual Beach Blast Christian Music Festival will take place Saturday at Ninth Avenue North and Ocean Boulevard on the former Myrtle Beach Pavilion property.

High school playoff action continues
S.C. high school state playoffs are in full swing this week, as baseball, softball, tennis and boys and girls soccer have playoff matchups. Baseball, softball and tennis have lower state matchups taking place on Monday, while boys soccer begins district play. Playoff action for girls soccer begins Tuesday.
