Olivia Garren, who is retiring as president of Horry County United Way at the end of the month, was given a plaque and honored by Horry County Council Tuesday.
“Than you very much for this honor,” Garren said after being handed the plaque from Council Chairman Mark Lazarus. “It is really an honor to be so recognized.
“It has been an honor and a privilege to work with some of the finest leaders in this county, who have volunteered their time and talent and expertise to United Way and has made it what it is today.”
Garren was a part-time secretary for the United Way of Horry County board beginning in 1975. She was appointed executive director in 1980 until her title was changed to president in 2009 by United Way.
