President delivers State of the Union on Tuesday
President Barack Obama looks to turn the course of what some have called the worst year of his presidency when he delivers his sixth State of the Union address Tuesday, calling on Congress to narrow the widening gap between rich and poor by raising the minimum wage.
He also is likely to tout his embattled health care plan and urge patience in dealing with Iran. The speech will air at 9 p.m.
Snowbird Fest this weekend

Food samples, live entertainment and info from local businesses will be featured during the first Snowbird Fest in Myrtle Beach, organized by The Snowbird Co., a company that has websites listing winter rentals.
The event, free for those attending though registration is required, is set for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at The Hall at St. John’s, 3301 33rd Avenue North in Myrtle Beach.
Hotel and restaurant show on Tuesday
The annual Hotel, Motel and Restaurant Supply Show of the Southeast kicks off at noon Tuesday with roughly 500 exhibits at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Hours are noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday.
The show is open only to members of the hospitality industry.
Super Bowl this Sunday
While the Super Bowl will feature the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks, the weather might just steal the show at the big game Sunday.
Another storm is in the forecast for East Rutherford, N.J. – the site of the game – on Super Bowl weekend. Nonetheless, one team will be crowned Super Bowl champ after Sunday’s game, which is scheduled to kick off around 6:30 p.m. and is being televised by Fox.
Kings Highway roadwork
A $1.76 million streetscape improvement project begins Monday in Myrtle Beach with the outside travel lanes on Kings Highway being closed a few blocks at a time starting with closures between Sixth and Eighth avenues North. Lane closures will move south, block by block, until completing the upgrades through Third Avenue South.
Construction should be complete by May 30.
