Loris City Council election
Loris will hold its municipal election from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, when voters will choose from among four candidates to fill three non-partisan seats on the City Council.
Candidates include incumbents Mike Suggs and Lewis Hardee and newcomers Casey Ward and Ricky Dew. Voters can cast their ballots at one of two sites: Loris Elementary School for East Loris and the Loris Public Safety Building for West Loris.

The Citizens Coalition for Ocean Highway will meet Monday to hear analysis from a transportation expert on traffic flow and the proposed installation of a median on U.S. 17 from Baskerville Drive to Waverly Road.
Eric Tripi will speak at 3 p.m. Monday at Dezignworkz in Commerce Trade Center, 250 Commerce Drive in Pawleys Island.
The coalition argues that the S.C. Department of Transportation’s proposed plan for the median is costly and plans to present an alternative plan to the Georgetown County Council.

Seahawks eye title
The Myrtle Beach High School football team will take on D.W. Daniel at 3 p.m. Saturday in Columbia to try to bring home their first state title since 2010.
A second seed out of Region VII-AAA, the Seahawks have won four straight postseason games to reach the title game.
ACC, SEC football champions to be crowned
Missouri will take on Auburn in the SEC championship game at 4 p.m. Saturday. The winner likely will be in the mix to play for the BCS national championship.
Florida State will face Duke in the ACC championship game at 8 p.m. Saturday.
Coats for Kids distributed
Outerwear and blankets that were collected throughout Myrtle Beach and Conway for the past month will be distributed Saturday to needy children and adults.
Coast RTA’s eighth annual Coats for Kids campaign ends this week and those in need can pick up new or gently used coats, sweaters, jackets and blankets at Canal Street Recreation Center between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday. The center is located at 901 Canal St. in Myrtle Beach.
