A Lake City man died Saturday afternoon when he lost control of the moped he was driving and crashed into a road sign, the coroner’s office said.

Willie Lee Anderson Jr., 30, died around 4:15 p.m. Saturday at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center from head and neck injuries, Horry County coroner Robert Edge Jr. said. Anderson’s sister told Edge the man was in Myrtle Beach for the weekend with his girlfriend.

Anderson was riding a moped in the 5700 block of N. Ocean Boulevard when he lost control, hit a sign and was thrown from the moped and hit a light pole, Edge said. He would have been 31 later this month, Edge said.
