Apply to Myrtle Beach’s Citizens Police Academy

The Myrtle Beach Police Department is accepting applications for the 27th session of the Citizens Police Academy. The academy begins in January.
Classes will meet on Mondays from 7 to 9 p.m. for 10 weeks with members graduating in March.
“The Citizens Police Academy is not designed to turn you into a police officer, but it will give you an appreciation of what law enforcement officers do and the decisions they must make,” according to the CPA website.
Applicants must be residents of Horry County – though Myrtle Beach residents receive first preference – and be at least 21 years old with a valid driver’s license. A criminal history check and driver’s license check are also required of all applicants.
Those accepted to the class will study topics including crime scene investigation, emergency vehicle operations and simulated firearms training. Class members also ride and work with city police officers and staff to get a behind-the-scenes look at law enforcement.
To graduate, participants must attend at least eight of the 10 classes and complete at least 15 hours of ride-along and work-along experience.
