New Jersey man dies after being hit by car in Myrtle Beach

A New Jersey man walking along U.S. 17 bypass in Myrtle Beach was struck by a Chevrolet Impala and killed Friday morning, according to the Myrtle Beach Police Department.

Shane Cary, 28, of Somerset, NJ died from trauma sustained after being hit by a car, said Horry County Deputy Coroner Darris Fowler.

Cary was walking northbound on on the highway near the 4900 block North when he was struck by the car, also traveling north.

“The pedestrian was found to be the at-fault unit in the collision,” police said. “The driver of the Chevy Impala will not be charged criminally in the collision.”

Police said the driver of the Impala stated he didn’t see the pedestrian until it was too late to avoid striking the Cary.
