The attractions have many similarities. Both are about 200 feet tall. Both feature 42 enclosed, climate-controlled gondolas. Both sit in their city’s downtown area.
But SkyWheel general manager Chris Trout said the similarities in the attractions are not a reason for him to worry about losing business.
“I don’t see Atlanta taking any business away from us,” Trout said. “There are a lot of these going up [around the country]. I think it’s just going to be a trend for a while.”
The SkyWheel offers views of the Atlantic Ocean while the SkyView has the tagline “You can see Atlanta from here.”
Wheels are planned to go up in other cities in the next few years, including Orlando, Fla., Las Vegas and Staten Island, N.Y.
While Trout said he is not concerned about losing businesses, he added that it might take a while to see any difference in ticket sales.
“They’ve only been open a week,” he said. “I haven’t really thought about any impact from Atlanta.”
