A flood warning is in effect for the Waccamaw River at Conway until further notice, according to forecasters with the National Weather Service in Wilmington, N.C. A flood advisory was extended earlier for Horry and Georgetown counties until midnight.
The Waccamaw is forecasted to rise above flood stage Wednesday morning and stay there for the next four or five days, said meteorologist Brad Reinhart. The water is expected to cause minor flooding of yards, especially in the Lee’s Landing, Pitch Landing, Savannah Bluff and Riverfront South communities.
Since excessive rain has fallen in recent days, forecasters warned that flooding could occur in low-lying areas and ponding on the area roads.
Residents living in areas prone to flooding should take precaution and monitor rainfall.
