Two Conway area brothers were charged in connection with a woman and a 16-year-old boy being assaulted Saturday night, according to an Horry County police report.
Anthony Phillip Hopkins, 38, was charged with attempted murder and is being held on $20,000 bond at J. Reuben Long Detention Center, according to jail records. Hopkins’ brother, Michael Lee Hopkins, 37, was charged with second-degree assault and battery and is being held on $10,000 bond.
The men were booked into the jail at 7:46 p.m. Saturday, about an hour after Horry County police were called to Krystal Lane in the Conway area for a fight.
Police learned a 37-year-old woman and 16-year-old boy were involved in an incident with the men, according to the report. The woman told officers she argued while riding with Michael Hopkins and when she got out of the car, he grabbed her by the throat, which caused her to pass out.
The woman said the teen came to her aid and Michael Hopkins shouted to his brother that the teen was there and known to carry a small pocket knife, according to the report. The victim said Anthony Hopkins grabbed a pipe and hit the teen in the head several times, which caused him to lose consciousness.
The victims were taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center where the teen received several stables in his head for the wound, according to the report. The brothers were found down the street at their home and Michael Hopkins said he put his hands on the woman because she moved towards him.
Michael Hopkins told police the victims had tried to beat him up before and he was scared after he gave them a ride, according to the report. Anthony Hopkins told police he saw the teen with a knife and he hit the boy.
