Coast RTA launched its new service to Myrtle Beach International Airport on Saturday, providing a direct shuttle to hotels and businesses along Ocean Boulevard and the Myrtle Beach Sheraton Convention Center. The hours of operation are 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, and the cost is $7 one way and $10 round trip.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at the airport Monday at 11:30 a.m. The Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce and county officials will attend.
The agency acquired the two buses used for the airport route with grants for $350,000 each, Coast RTA general manager Myers Rollins has said. The buses will leave the terminal, head to Harrelson Boulevard, then Kings Highway, where one will head north, while the other goes south. There will be fixed stops along the routes, which include a number of large hotels on Ocean Boulevard, but the service might be tweaked as Coast RTA works with airport officials to identify key times to pick up and drop off travelers. This is Myrtle Beach’s first fixed-route airport service, Rollins said.
Coast RTA currently operates 10 fixed routes, Demand Response and para-transit services.
