The Annual Omar Shriners Ceremonial will take place this weekend, featuring a parade on Saturday.
The parade begins at 10 a.m. – with those participating getting line beginning at 9 a.m. – at Ocean Boulevard and Eighth Avenue North. The parade will head north on Ocean Boulevard, ending at 16th Avenue North.
“The main purpose is to promote Shriners International and to induct new members,” said Gus O’Shields with the Omar Shriners. “We want to generate public awareness of our mission to improve the lives of children through our 22 hospitals.”
O’Shields said the Shriners Hospital for Children in Greenville treated nearly 14,000 outpatients last year.
Never miss a local story.
In September, children with orthopedic problems can be screened for free at the annual South Atlantic Shrine Association festival to see if they qualify for care at a Shriners hospital. There will be no screenings this weekend.
