Support for the fire victims continues Saturday with a benefit concert in Plyler Park in Myrtle Beach.
The Salvation Army Student Fellopship Band and the Songsters of Asbury University will perform. Monetary donations will be collected for the Salvation Army to provide Windsor Green families displaced by the March 16 fire with rental assistance for permanent housing. Nearly 190 people lost their home when the brush fire extended to the condominium complex in Carolina Forest and destroyed 26 buildings.
The concert begins at 11:30 a.m.
“So far we’ve helped 14 families with one month’s rent each,” said Michele Borbely, case worker with The Salvation Army of Horry County. “We just want to do what we can to see that these families get back on their feet and recover from this tragedy,” Borbely said.
Never miss a local story.
The X Sports Mall will present a check to the Salvation Army of money raised by selling the uncollected donations of clothing, furniture and other items during a yard sale last week.
“We’ll make sure that every dollar [from the yard sale] helps those affected by the Windsor Green fire,” said Major Bret McElroy, corps officer of the Salvation Army in Horry County.
