Poll: Mark Sanford would be in toss up with Stephen Colbert's sister in Charleston House race
The Public Policy Polling firm out of North Carolina, which was one of the most accurate in the country during the 2012 election cycle, finds that comedian Stephen Colbert's sister, Elizabeth Colbert Busch, has a slight 2-point advantage over former S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford in the race to replace Tim Scott in the First Congressional District.
That's somewhat surprising, given Sanford's name recognition and the nature of that district, which skews heavily conservative. Of course that could change once (or if) Sanford wins the runoff next week in the Republican primary and faces Busch in the special election.
But it does signal that Sanford still has some convincing to do over the next couple of weeks to change the minds of voters who have not forgotten his fall from grace.
