Parents who would like their children to participate in Saturday’s Easter Egg Plunge at Canal Street Recreation Center must register by Thursday.
The free event, which takes place in the center’s pool, is for children aged 5 to 12 and begins at 11 a.m.
Children will be able to dive into the pool to collect eggs, said Ryan Caputo, aquatics leader at the recreation center.
“Some eggs will sink and some will float,” he said. “They’ll collect the eggs and then depending on how many eggs they collect they can trade them in to ‘buy’ candy.”

He said about 40 children were registered as of 6 p.m. Monday but was expecting that number to jump.
“I’m told we typically get a range of people,” Caputo said, adding he’s only been in his current position at the center for a few months. “Sometimes its 50 and sometimes its 200. It really depends.”
Caputo said children can participate in creating arts and crafts and some gym activities before the plunge. The kids will be broken up into groups of 15 to 20 depending on age and swimming ability.
To register, call Caputo at 918-1476. It is suggested participants check in 15 minutes before their plunge. The Canal Street Recreation Center is located at 901 Canal St. in Myrtle Beach.
