THE WEEK AHEAD
40 employers to participate in local veterans’ job fair
The National Chamber Foundation of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce will host a veterans’ job fair Wednesday at the Sheraton Myrtle Beach on Oak Street.
The event, titled “Hiring Our Heroes – Myrtle Beach,” is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon. More than 40 employers are expected.
Job seekers should register at www.hoh.greatjob.net. Walk-ins are welcome. Veterans must present military identification.
The Foundation has held 380 similar job fairs, which resulted in 14,000 veterans and military spouses getting jobs, according to information from the U.S. Chamber.
New movies hit theaters this week
Three new movies hit theaters this Friday: “Mama,” “The Last Stand” and “Broken City.” Don’t expect any Oscar nominations here, though. Arnold Schwarzenegger is back on his acting track with “The Last Stand” as the sheriff of a small town near the Mexican border. It’s rated R.
“Mama” stars Oscar-nominated Jessica Chastain as the aunt of two girls who were left alone (or were they?) in the forest for five years. It’s rated PG-13 and Andres Muschietti directs.
“Broken City” features Mark Wahlberg and Russell Crowe, the former an ex-cop hired by the latter, the mayor, who then double-crosses him. Catherine Zeta-Jones also stars in this rated R movie.
Events to honor Martin Luther King Jr. begin
Events honoring Martin Luther King Jr. begin this week.
An event on Saturday, Carolina Has Talent, will take place from 4-9 p.m. at the Myrtle Beach Base Recreation Center, 800 Gabreski Lane, Myrtle Beach.

Teams set to fight for spot in Super Bowl
The 2013 Super Bowl participants will be determined Sunday.
The San Francisco 49ers visit the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC Championship game at 3 p.m. Sunday. The Baltimore Ravens head to New England, where they will take on the Patriots in the AFC Championship game in the nightcap at 6:30 p.m.
The first game will be on Fox and the second will be on CBS.
