Helping Hand of Myrtle Beach received $10,000 Thursday as one of 10 nonprofits recognized in Wal-Mart’s 12 Days of Giving holiday campaign.
The campaign is designed to help nonprofits that have an impact on the local community.
“It’s really exciting,” said Helping Hand Executive Director Adrian Weatherwax. “They’re awarding 140 (organizations) out of more than 21,000 nominations.”
Wal-Mart called on Facebook users to nominate nonprofits. The company will give a total of $1.5 million to 140 nonprofits across the country who are providing basic needs and services, according to the company’s website.
All of Wednesday’s recipients work to help people overcome personal hardship. Wal-Mart also will award nonprofits who work to feed the hungry, support seniors, support the military and help others in need.
