An Horry Georgetown Technical College student arrested Wednesday for disturbing schools was placed on administrative suspension pending a disciplinary review Thursday.

Lanceford Brian Bayes, 36, of Pawleys Island is charged with kidnapping, stalking, disturbing schools, carrying weapons on school property and drug possession. He was released from J. Reuben Long Detention Center Thursday on $55,000 bond.

According to an incident report from Coastal Carolina University Department of Public Safety, which handles incidents at both colleges, police were called because Bayes was tapping a bullet on a desk during a class at the Grand Strand campus on Nov. 20.

Bayes was not carrying a gun, but he did have weapons and ammunition in his truck, along with drug paraphernalia and several prescription drug pills, the report said.

A woman, who is a classmate, told police she had witnessed violent behavior by Bayes before and that while visiting him at his home he wouldn’t let her leave, pinning her down and telling her that “she would leave when he told her she could leave,” according to police.

That woman said she had been to Bayes’ home eight or nine times and tried to end her relationship with him when she learned he had a girlfriend. She said Bayes was sending her harassing texts and messages on Facebook after she asked him not to.

Bayes confirmed his relationship with the woman, telling police he also had a fiancée and that the woman harassed Bayes and his fiancée and spread rumors about him.
